Manchester Sculpture Atelier is the studio of David R. and Susan C Manchester.  David creates direct sculpture in steel and Susan's works are in paper pulp.

David R Manchester was born in New York in 1952. He graduated from Hilbert College and  the SUNY at Buffalo. David studied  oil painting with major abstractionists in New York and produced a vast body of paintings for 20 years.

In 1991 he made a career decision to shift his efforts to the creation of direct steel sculpture.  He taught himself forging and blacksmithing techniques as an artist in residence at Middleton Place Plantation in Charleston, South Carolina. With these skills in hand he developed his unique style of forged and welded representational steel sculpture.

David's sculpture is collected internationally in the private and public sectors.  He is a member of the International Sculture Center and the Tristate Sculptors Guild.

Susan grew up in Pittsburgh and graduated from Penn State in 1987.  Coming from a background in science, Susan has always been drawn to nature and Mother Earth. Through books, experimentation and study with other artists she has developed her own unique processes to create her work.

Using recycled materials she creates handmade paper, collages and sculpture.  Susan collects discarded paper, maps, jewelry and adds in organic materials like herbs, flowers and palm thatch, many of which she grows herself.

They relocated to the Miami area in 2001.
